Oysters, Oil Painting on Canvass, "One Dozen With Fries", 12x16, by Mercedes Franklin, For Sale $840.
Going out to eat oysters with people is always a great time. Good friends, good food, good conversation. I chose these colors to represent "enjoyable encounters". I hope you feel the same. This painting was featured in the "Beaches of South Walton & Scenic 30A" magazine 2015 Vol. 12. $840.00 | Oyster Oil Painting on Canvass, "Coastal Treasure", 5x7, by Mercedes Franklin. In Private Collection This is one of the simplest oysters I have painted. The darker colors remind me of the Old Masters palette which I like. Has nothing to do with water nor as colorful as previous Oysters but that's Ok. Some days are good for painting. This was one of them. I had a clear vision. The color values came quickly. And Voile'. It was done & am happy. | Oyster Oil Painting on Canvass, "A Pink Pearl For The Girl", 5x7, by Mercedes Franklin. Private Collection. I had painted this actual canvass earlier but the colors I used just did not work. The canvass sat around for awhile till I started experimenting with color again. After 2 more try's I landed on these colors. Much happier & it feels waterish y... just where an oyster should be! |
Oyster Oil Painting on Canvass, "Delicacies Await", 8x10, by Mercedes Franklin. Private Collection. As you probably know Oysters are some of my favorite things. They are like the sparrow in a coal mine in regards to the health of the marsh lands & bay waters that surround them. These paintings have become my lab for experimentation with colors. The neutral hues of the Oyster lends itself to be wrapped in all shades! I used brushes, palette knife & oil pastilles on this canvass. Enjoyed every minute of it! Private Collection A Gallery requested an "Old World Oyster Painting" as this is her most favorite time of such artwork. Here is my interpretation of her request. It was good though frustrating since I had a plan before the start from which I did not want to veer. Whereas most of my work I build on what I have previously done so the out come is not really known. I can say I am happy with how this painting finished. And the Gallery likes it too!!! I am also happy to say this painting, along with "Loving", has been accepted to the 54th Bay Annual Juried Art Show running through April 14th 2017. | Oyster Oil Painting on Canvass, "Give Me Light", 5x7, by Mercedes Franklin. Private Collection These Bivalve Molluscas live in the waters most their lives wet. So I'm thinking once & awhile they would enjoy the warm light of the sun & a short time to dry out. Not too long!!! But long enough to feel the air. |
Oyster Oil Painting On Canvass, "Naked Joy", 5x7, by Mercedes Franklin. Private Collection.
This painting was sheer "joy" to do. It came out of me through my brush onto the canvass so easily. When it was finished I felt great. And what a shell! One of the best I have. | Oil Painting On Canvass, Oyster, "Mixed Emotions", 5"x7", by Mercedes Franklin. Private Collection.
When I first laid out the paint on the canvass I had some beautiful red, orange & purple strokes. The painting came together in another way than I had planned but the lovely colors were right there in the midst of the oyster meat. I couldn't let go so I left them & have thoroughly enjoyed the view ever since! | Oyster Oil Painting on Canvass, "Pleasantly Plump", 5"x7", by Mercedes Franklin. Private Collection. Each oyster has their own thing going on. This one, out of a dz, looked "pleasantly plum" & ready to eat. |
